Review Draft-
1st version
Set in the vibrant,
cultural city of Brighton One Year depicts a new style of genre for today’s
modern values by imbedding the storyline with current issues that our present-day
youths suffer from. Not only is this a risk for the outcome of the film’s
success but for the reputation of Marshall herself. Known for her affection to generate
films that follow the genre of Thriller and Mystery, Marshall has taken a leap
of faith when directing this raw, realistic piece.
With that being said
Sharpe’s performance as the alienated and innocent teenager; Amy is not
Oscar-worthy but in many words relatable and gripping to the young viewers
watching. The characters lack or coping with reality is both
heart-wrenching and pitiful. Marshall's attempt to imitate aspects of Shyamalan’s The Sixth Sense is carried out successfully but
perhaps lacking originality due to the repetitive narrative structure of the
film. 2nd version

cultural city of Brighton, One Year depicts a new style of genre for today’s
modern values by imbedding a storyline with current issues that the majority of
people suffer from in today’s complex world. Not only is this a risk for the
outcome of the film’s success but for the reputation of Marshall herself. Known
for her ability to generate transfixing films that follow the genre of Thriller
and Mystery, Marshall has taken a leap of faith when directing this raw,
realistic piece.
That being said Sharpe’s
performance as the alienated and innocent teenager Amy is not Oscar-worthy
but in many words relatable and gripping to the audience watching. No matter
how old you are, we have all experienced the highs and lows of teenage hood and
the emotions it entails. The characters lack or coping with reality is
both heart-wrenching and pitiful. Marshall's attempt to imitate aspects
of Shyamalan’s The Sixth Sense is carried out
successfully but perhaps lacking in originality due to the repetitive narrative
structure of the film.
